ChatGPT vs Perplexity

Two tools coaches often weigh against each other, compared on the same terms.

ChatGPT

FreemiumSoftware

The most widely used AI assistant — for drafting client emails, brainstorming session plans and turning messy notes into something a client can read.

Perplexity

FreemiumSoftware

An AI search engine that answers with citations — useful for quickly getting a sourced overview of a topic before you read the actual research.

What it is

ChatGPT

A general-purpose AI assistant with chat, file uploads, voice mode and image generation. Most of your clients have already used it, which matters: they will not find it strange that you do too.

Perplexity

Ask a question, get a written answer with numbered links to the pages it drew on. Closer to a research assistant than a chatbot.

Best for

ChatGPT

Everyday writing and thinking work. Save your voice, your offer and your coaching style as custom instructions or a project, and the drafts stop sounding like everyone else's.

Perplexity

Getting up to speed fast: what the current guidance says on a supplement, a new training method, or a coaching model a client mentioned. The citations tell you where to read next.

Watch out for

ChatGPT

It is confident when it is wrong. Never let it be the source for a training, nutrition or medical claim, and check your plan's data settings before pasting anything a client told you in confidence.

Perplexity

A citation is not a good source. It will happily cite a blog post as confidently as a meta-analysis — click through before you repeat anything to a client.
